From exploring the rich cultural and historical sites to riding Bactrian camels and Mongolian horses on a trek, capture the essence of Mongolia in just one trip!

Ride a two humped camel in desert dunes, horse treks in beautiful nature off the beaten track, bonfires, authentic Mongolian food and outdoor camping. Catch the unique opportunity to visit a real shaman master's yurt. Visit the centuries old Tuvkhun monastery on top of a mountain and the Mongol Empire's capital Kharkhorin.

Itinerary

Day 1. Airport – Mini Gobi.

Welcome to Mongolia! Once your flight lands, your tour guide and driver will be waiting for you at the airport. From there, we get into our UAZ 4x4 Wagon and head straight to the Mini-Gobi (Elsen Tasarkhai). Elsen Tasarkhai is a Desert area stretching 80km long and 40km wide full of sand dunes. We will stay with a family of camel herders in a yurt under a starry sky. Mongolian starry sky without light pollution is truly breathtaking, so don’t forget your camera.

Day 2. Mini-Gobi – 8 Lakes nomad family

We will have early breakfast, which includes the notorious Mongolian salty milk tea, then get on the road to the 8 Lakes. You will notice that the region of Ovorkhangai province is full of scattered volcanic rocks. The 8 Lakes (Naiman Nuur) are a series of interconnected lakes formed from volcanic craters. We will stay with a local nomad family. You will be welcome by the yak herder family as Mongolians are famous for their warm welcoming nature. In the evening we will have dinner with family while chatting about their lifestyle and various customs to follow.

Day 3. Getting to know the culture.

Accommodation: Yurt

Early in the morning we will milk the yaks for our milk tea ourselves and have a breakfast Mongolian style. The family has a shaman lineage so you have a chance to visit a genuine shaman’s yurt. Get to know the traditional religion, what is used in it and how: explained by the shamaness herself (optional meditation and consultation). Along the journey we will have ethnic foods that the locals eat or you can order alternatives such as vegan if you wish. Lunch will be a Mongolian style stone seared barbecue: Khorkhog, it is a dish served to honored guests. After eating the hostess will show you how alcohol is made from milk. In the evening we will prepare the horses that will be carrying our luggage.

Day 4. The Great Trek. Trekking to one of the 8 Lakes, ‘Shireet’

After eating breakfast, we will pack our luggage on a horse and go on our hike to Shireet Lake. Shireet is one of the 8 volcanic lakes and is not accessible by car. The view along the way is beautiful and wild. Shireet’s lake shore is unique place with a beautiful view and full of small round volcanic pebbles. We will set up our tents and let the horses rest. Relax on hammocks or you may fish if you bring a rod with you.

Day 5. Trekking to one of the 8 Lakes, ‘Khuis’.

As we trek from Shireet lake to Khuis lake, you will see a few smaller lakes and various terrain such as forests, mountains and rocky plains with huge scattered volcanic rocks of all shapes and sizes. Arriving at Khuis Lake we will stay with another nomad family.

Day 6-7. From Khuis Lake – to Bodon – to Red Waterfall.

As we trek from Shireet lake to Khuis lake, you will see a few smaller lakes and various terrain such as forests, mountains and rocky plains with huge scattered volcanic rocks of all shapes and sizes. Arriving at Khuis Lake we will let the horses go back with the horse guide and stay with another nomad family.

Day 8. Relax at the Red Waterfall.

The Red Waterfall (Ulaan Tsutgalan) is 20m tall and 10m wide waterfall. It is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Orkhon Valley, the political and spiritual home of the past mongol empires. Relax at the waterfall.

Day 9. From Red Waterfall – to Tovkhon monastery.

Leaving the waterfall by car, on our way to the monastery we will visit an ancient burial site and historical battlefield. When we arrive at the base of the mountain, we will leave our car behind and hike or ride a horse to the top of the mountain. First established in 1648, located on a cliff 2600m above sea level the Tovkhon monastery is a sacred Buddhist monastery built by a spiritual leader of Mongolia, Zanabazar. The rich history, meditation caves at the monastery and the view from the top is a great memory for anyone who visits. Concluding our visit to the sacred place, we will come down from the mountain to spend the night.

Day 10. From Tovkhon – to Kharkhorin – to Shankh monastery

'Kharkhorin' is a historical city located in central Mongolia, which was once the capital of the Mongol Empire during the reign of Chinggis Khan. The city was established in the 13th century and became an important cultural, economic, and political center of the empire. Today, Kharakorum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts tourists from all over the world who are interested in Mongolian history and culture. Visitors to Kharakorum can explore the ruins of the ancient city, including the Erdene Zuu Monastery and Shankh Monastery which have both survived the 1937 purge.

Day 11. Khustai National Park. Przewalski horses.

From Kharkhorin we drive to Khustai National Park. The park has unique biodiversity and if you are lucky you might see the endangered Przewalski horse. The Przewalski horse, also known as the Mongolian wild horse, is a rare and endangered species of horse that is native to the steppes of Mongolia. It is one of the few wild horse species still in existence today, and it has been successfully reintroduced into the wild in Khustai National Park after being extinct in the wild for almost 30 years.

Day 12. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Museum, Shopping.

We drive back to Ulaanbaatar and arrive at your hotel. Dive into the history of Mongolia by visiting the National History Museum, which was renewed in 2022. Your guide will show you around Ulaanbaatar according to your preference. Arrive back to your hotel.

Day 13. Drive back to your airport.

The guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to the airport whenever you like. Have a safe flight!
